The call for stronger economic and strategic ties between China and Germany could pave the way for enhanced global cooperation and stability, particularly in the face of mounting economic challenges worldwide. This development came as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged for deeper collaboration with Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul during a phone conversation on Monday.
Wang emphasized the mutual benefits of fortifying economic and strategic cooperation, stressing the importance of multilateralism, free trade, and open dialogue. He advocated for increased communication and mutual trust between the two nations, highlighting the potential positive impact on global economic conditions. Additionally, Wang reiterated the significance of Germany maintaining its adherence to the one-China principle and supporting stability across the Taiwan Strait.
In response, German Foreign Minister Wadephul expressed optimism about the ongoing positive momentum in Germany-China relations. He voiced support for heightened high-level exchanges and expanded cooperation in trade and economic affairs, reaffirming Germany’s commitment to the one-China policy.
The ministers also touched upon pressing international issues, including the situations in Iran and Ukraine. Wang underscored China’s dedication to supporting global peace efforts and fostering communication with both Germany and the European Union, emphasizing the need for dialogue in resolving economic and trade differences, rather than resorting to confrontation.
