China and Germany are fortifying their business and technology partnership, with innovations and expertise increasingly exchanged in both directions, rather than predominantly moving from Germany to China. This development was highlighted in a recent joint research report unveiled at the China-Germany (China-Europe) Hidden Champions Forum 2026, held in Beijing’s Shunyi district. The forum attracted over 400 executives and business representatives from both Europe and China, underscoring the growing interest in bilateral collaboration.
The report revealed that a significant number of European companies are eager to expand their operations in China. Approximately 38 percent of surveyed European firms expressed plans to boost their research and development investments within China. Additionally, 40 percent intend to grant their Chinese branches more autonomy from their German headquarters, signaling a shift towards more independent operations in the region.
Simultaneously, Chinese electric vehicle giants like Li Auto and NIO have set up research and design centers in Germany, exemplifying the burgeoning two-way technological collaboration between the nations. This move highlights the mutual benefits of the partnership, with knowledge and innovation flowing seamlessly between the two countries.
During the event, a public service station was also launched to assist businesses in overcoming technical trade barriers. Furthermore, a new partnership initiative was introduced to encourage German and European firms to engage with Beijing’s economic and technological cooperation zone in Shunyi, fostering an environment conducive to innovation and growth.
Tang Wenhong emphasized Beijing’s commitment to enhancing collaboration between Chinese and German enterprises. The city plans to attract more innovative companies, solidifying its role as a global hub for science and technology. This commitment aims to bolster the economic ties between China and Germany, paving the way for future advancements in various sectors.
