Lidl Hungary has significantly bolstered its operations with the inauguration of a sprawling new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza. This development, backed by an investment of nearly 60 billion forints (approximately €162 million), marks the retailer’s largest warehouse in the country. The facility is set to enhance the supply chain for roughly 70 stores across Hungary.
Spanning over 83,000 square meters, the logistics hub has already generated more than 400 jobs, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees shortly. Boasting 194 loading docks, the center is equipped with a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, ensuring efficient handling of perishable goods. Notably, the facility prioritizes sustainability, featuring energy-efficient technologies such as a 9,000-square-meter solar panel installation on its roof and an innovative system that repurposes waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating.
Enhancing the site’s environmental footprint, a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area has been established around the logistics center. This eco-friendly approach aligns with Lidl’s broader commitment to sustainability while serving as a model for green logistics in the region.
With the ability to dispatch approximately 4,500 pallets of goods daily, the new center is poised to fortify Lidl’s nationwide supply network. This expansion is crucial for the retailer, which currently operates 220 stores throughout Hungary and sources nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers. The logistics center is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting Lidl’s ongoing growth and strengthening its domestic market presence.
